Gary Alan "Hair Bear" Dalland, 70, of Crosby, formerly of Owatonna died Monday, March 18, 2019 at Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear, Arizona following a courageous journey with diabetes.
He was born February 11, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Merle and Marian (Bedford) Dalland. He moved to Owatonna in 1963 with his family and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1968. Following his schooling he served in the United States Army.
On February 1, 1975, Gary married Maxine Madsen at the Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont. Gary's job in the family's tree service business took the family to many states including Minnesota, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas before settling in Owatonna in 1987. He then began his career with the City of Owatonna where he worked until his retirement in 2010.
Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle trike with his wife, Maxine, fishing, tinkering in his shop, and teasing everyone he knew. If you were lucky, Gary gave you a nickname. He also enjoyed a trip to his favorite place, Hawaii, and wintering in Arizona where he and Maxine could travel around the desert on a side by side with all of their winter Arizona friends.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Dalland of Crosby; children, Chad Dalland of Brainerd and Toni (and Kenny) Dahlenburg of Ellendale; mother, Marian Dalland of Owatonna; grandchildren, Broderrick Dalland, Heather Kaune, Brock Dalland, Whitney Dalland and Bowen Dalland; brother, James (and Donna) Dalland of Owatonna; sister-in-law, Joanne Dalland of Round Mountain, TX and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by father, Merle Dalland; brother, Mike Dalland and close friend and cousin, Harold "Junior" "Bugs" Clements and other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Saturday, April 13th from 11am to 1pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 1:00pm at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
