Gary E. Kriesel, 78, of Owatonna, died Monday, December 16, 2019, at his home.
He was born July 13, 1941, in Owatonna, the son of Emil and Elizabeth (Neigebauer) Kriesel. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated as the class valedictorian from Owatonna High School in 1959. He received a scholarship to attend the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Gary entered into the United States Army in 1965, he was stationed in Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned home to Owatonna. He worked for a short time at 3M in Rochester. Gary made his home on the family dairy farm where he was also the main caregiver for his parents and other family members. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching movies and fishing. He also enjoyed attending the Steele County Fair and auctions. Gary also took many daytrips and vacations that took him across the United States and to Europe. Family was the center of Gary's life, always attending celebrations for his nieces and nephews. He served on the Clinton Falls Township board for over 26 years and the Rural Fire Association for many years. Gary was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime member.
He is survived by his siblings, William (Jackie) Kriesel of Montgomery TX, Carol (and Harl) Burzlaff of West Concord, Karen Johnson of Dundas; ten nieces and nephews; many extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elizabeth; and brother-in-law, Russell Johnson.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna with Pastor Jacie Richmond officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Owatonna with military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Gary's family.
