Gary Lee Schubert, 68, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 9, 2012, in Inver Grove Heights. Gary was born December 14, 1943 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Lawrence Fremont and Viola Loretta (Brockmiller) Schubert. He was raised in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1962. He then attended Mankato State University graduating in 1972 with degrees in Geography and Industrial Arts. He married Linda Lou Spiekermann on December 16, 1966 and they had one daughter Christine. The couple later divorced. Gary was always building something. He was a self-employed woodworker, building custom cabinets, furniture, decorative wood items and custom yard sheds. He enjoyed collecting Coca Cola items and was an avid square dancer, dancing all over the United States. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a deacon. He also ushered and built many custom items for the church sanctuary, including bible racks for all of the pews and hymnal number boards, the Easter cross, lectern and several yard sheds. He also was a part of the Cursillo group through Trinity Lutheran. Gary also believed in helping others and received his 10 gallon pin as a blood donor. He is survived by his daughter, Christine (and Troy) Brooks of Owatonna; brother, Larry (and Linda) Schubert of Owatonna; sister Luci Degen of Owatonna; four granddaughters, Amber, Michaela (Jeremiah Coffield), Jocelyn and Lydia. He is also survived by a special friend, Patricia McCann of Inver Grove Heights; aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence in 1979 and Viola in 2005. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating.
