Gaylord George Moeckly, age 86, of Medford, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1939, to the late Henry C. and Isabella L. (Musegades) Moeckly in Medford. Growing up, Gaylord always bragged about attending one year at the Merton Township one room schoolhouse before moving to Medford School where he later graduated. He enjoyed spending time on the farm in his younger years, tediously upkeeping with all the things that brought him joy. On October 17, 1959, Gaylord married Joan Schmoll at Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont, and they would have three children and spend 49 long and loving years together until her passing in 2009.
Fixing things was Gaylord's talent, working at Mustang for 43 years as a welder, foreman, and manufacturing engineer. After retiring, he went to work for Manke's Outdoor Equipment in Owatonna where he spent time fixing lawnmowers. Gaylord generously spent the rest of his time to his family and his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Owatonna, as a sound tech for the AV system until it was "too advanced for his expertise". He was also a collector of many items; his favorite was being glass paper weights.
His family cherishes the moments when Gaylord would lend a listening ear, always offering his full and caring heart to everyone, never once wanting anything in return. His generosity was shown as he was a caregiver to both his sons and his wife before they passed, which allowed him to do the one thing that he loved, spending time with his beloved family.
Gaylord is survived by his granddaughter, Michelle (Wayne Hall) Moeckly of Williamsburg, KS; great-grandchildren: Jayden Heinicke, Xander Hall, Mykah Hall, and Izabella Hall; brother-in-law, Don (Sharon) Schmoll; sisters-in-law, Connie (Marvin Madsen) Blinsky and Sandee Buckingham; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; infant daughter; and sons, Brian and Rick Moeckly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be expressed to the American Cancer Society or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Owatonna in Gaylord's memory.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault. A gathering will be held after the burial at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Owatonna from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
