Obituary

George F. Derscheid 76 of Kenyon died Saturday at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. George was born at home in Rice County the son of Maurice and Beatrice (Knutson) Derscheid. George attended rural school District 159 and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1956, and served in the Army reserves from 1956-1964. George graduated with distinction from the University of Minnesota in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in soils science. George was united in marriage to Lytana Markham on December 23, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in Kenyon. George farmed crops, dairy, and hogs in the rural Kenyon/Moland area from 1961 to 2003. George was a lifelong member of Moland Lutheran Church, where he served many years as Sunday School Teacher and superintendent, church council, treasurer, secretary, and congregational president. He also served 4 years as treasurer for the ALC Cannon River Conference. George was very active and served in many positions for local and state Farm Bureau. He served as the clerk of Kenyon Township for 40 years, and also served on the Kenyon School Board from 1974-1983, and was a substitute teacher for Vo-Ag classes in Kenyon and West Concord Schools. George is survived by his wife Lytana, children Cynthia (Hugh) Brewer of Lennox, SD, Keith (Marliss) Derscheid of Kenyon, Jeffrey Derscheid of Kenyon, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Maurice Derscheid of Los Angeles, CA, Alice Jollivette of Story City, IA, LaVonne Dugan of Minneapolis, Beverly Sorensen of Annandale, Pauline (Alan) Krueger of Albert Lea, Harvey (Mary) Derscheid of Eagle Grove, MN, David (Phyllis) Derscheid of Kenyon, and Lois (Charles) Jackson of Sarona, WI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lynn Derscheid, and three brother in laws Norbert Jollivette, Otto Sorensen, and Leroy Dugan. Funeral service will be Thursday August 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Moland Lutheran Church with Pastor Nancy Edwardson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday August 26, 2015 from 4-7 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
