George Allen Knutson, 80, of Owatonna, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Homestead Hospice House. George was born March 31, 1932 in Heron Lake, Minnesota the son of Lester and Florence (Peacock) Knutson. He was raised in Windom, Minnesota and there he attended and graduated from Windom High School in 1951. While in high school he excelled in all sports. He married Arline Oddson and the couple made their home in the Windom, Mankato and Owatonna where George was employed. They later divorced. He worked in the communications industry as a supervisor with Northwestern Bell, US West and ATT in Mankato, Owatonna and Rochester. He retired from ATT in 1990. George enjoyed spending time with his friends fishing, hunting and traveling. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time on yard projects. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Eagles Club and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He is survived by his children, Dr. Kirby (and Melanie) Knutson of Owatonna; Kelly (and Jeanne) Knutson of Owatonna; Korey Knutson of Houston, TX; Kristy (and Gregory) Kenow of Winona; Kimberly (and Charles) Nelson of Owatonna; Keith Knutson of Katy, TX; a brother, Jerry (and Linda) Knutson of Naples, FL; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Frederickson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Bethany Cemetery in Bergen, Minnesota at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Homestead Hospice Patient Care Fund or donor''s choice.
