George Weiss, 70, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at his home. He was born August 30, 1939 in Ober-Eidsch, Romania the son of Georg and Katharina (Schuster) Weiss. George and his family immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1956. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School with the class of 1960. He served in the US Army from 1962 - 1964. George married Jean Will August 9, 1969 in Lydia. The couple made their home in Owatonna where George worked for Wenger Corporation. He retired from Wenger Corporation after a 40-year career. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He loved all sports, camping with his extended family and watching the wildlife in his backyard. He took special pleasure in the time he spent with his grandson, Chase. George is survived by his wife, Jean Weiss of Owatonna; son, Kurt (and Rachel) Weiss of Ames, IA; daughter, Krista (and Special Friend Justin Fiedler) Louden of Brooklyn, NY; grandson, Chase Weiss of Ames, IA; brothers, Andy (and Deanna) Weiss of Blooming Prairie, John (and Fianc Denise Karalis) Weiss of Eagan, Joe (and Sandy) Weiss of Rochester; sisters, Traudy (and Special Friend Perry Deming) Nordine of Faribault, Margarete (and Bob) Miller of Tacoma, WA; brother in laws, Mike Keller of Dodge Center, Jerry (and Becky) Will of Rochester; sister in laws, Carol (and Lyle) Schultz of Jordan, Dianne (and Ken) Hartman of Jordan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Erna Keller, Katharina Weiss; nephew, Bruce Weiss. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and at St. John Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:30am at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Steele County Humane Society, St. John Lutheran Church Roof Fund, Owatonna Area Hospice Patient Care Fund or to the donor''s choice.
