Georgia Jane Joachim, 68, of Owatonna, died Friday, January 20, 2017 at her home after a 2 year courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer. She was born January 13, 1949 in Stromsburg, Nebraska the daughter of Robert and Betty (Gonnerman) Carlson. Georgia moved with her family to Minnesota as a child. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School and Southwest Minnesota State College with a Bachelors Degree. After college, she taught 2nd grade at Medford Public Schools for 21 years. While teaching in Medford, she married Gary Joachim August 4, 1978 at the United Methodist Church in Owatonna. The couple farmed together for many years during which time Georgia also sold Discovery Toys and kept honeybees. Georgia was an active member of the Owatonna United Methodist Church, was involved in state and local farm organizations, and served on the board of FarmConnect. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, genealogy, antiques, family reunions and board games. Georgia also enjoyed playing the piano and clarinet. Georgia's nieces and nephews held a special place in her life. She is survived by her husband Gary Joachim of Owatonna; brother, Wayne (and Deb) Carlson of Alexandria and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Teddy Carlson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm and at United Methodist Church on Thursday from 9am to 10am. Funeral services will be held January 26, 2017 at 10am at United Methodist Church with Linda Boorman officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
