Gerald Henry Elsner, age 78, of Owatonna, died Monday, September 11, 2017, at Traditions I in Owatonna. He was born on November 10, 1938, in Owatonna the son of Henry and Dorothy (Von Ruden) Elsner. He grew up and attended school in Owatonna. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Joan Hendrickson and the couple had two daughters, Jeri and Lori. He has spent all of his life in Owatonna and worked as a machinist at OMC and OTC. In his younger years he enjoyed working on cars. Gerald was a 42 year member of the American Legion and a 44 year member of the Eagle's Club. He is survived by his daughters, Jeri (Scott) Jahner of St. Anthony, MN and Lori (Chris) Johnke of Madison, SD; grandchildren, Derek Jahner, Corey (Ashley) Johnke, Jennifer (Cris) Gunderson and Carly (Matt) Groff; five great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Carmella) Elsner of Andover, MN and best friend, Hope Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy; wife, Joan (1972) and sister, Dolores Shear. A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna from 11am to 12 noon on Friday, September 15, 2017 immediately followed by a graveside service at St. John Cemetery in Owatonna with military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
