Obituary

Gerald Post, 81, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota. Gerald was born July 16, 1933 in Ocheydan, Iowa the son of Sam and Gertrude (Harmelink) Post. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school in Harris, Iowa. Gerald served from 1953 to 1957 in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Navarro. While aboard ship he worked in the boiler/mechanic room, learning his trade as a boiler engineer. On December 7, 1958, Gerald was united in marriage to Lorraine Lemke in Rushmore, Minnesota. They were married for 36 years before Lorraine died in 1994. Throughout the years, Gerald worked as a boiler operator at Worthington Power Plant, Armour and Company, and Owatonna Canning Company retiring in 1988. Gerald was a member of the Associated Church in Owatonna. He enjoyed family vacations when his daughters were growing up. Past times included working crossword puzzles, watching college sports and the Vikings. He enjoyed attending his granddaughters events. He often reminisced about exciting trips with his daughter and her family to Texas, Disney World and a Caribbean cruise. He is survived by his two daughters, LaRae Wiste of Owatonna, and Stephanie (and Mark) Haynes of Cottage Grove; two granddaughters, Ashley Haynes and Kayla Haynes; one sister, Gen (and Daryle) Dawson of Spearfish, SD; five nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, parents, and two brothers, Ted Post and Jack Post. Visitation will be at The Associated Church on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM at The Associated Church with The Reverend James D. Oberg officiating. Interment will be 2:30 PM Friday in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore, Minnesota. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
