Gerald Layton Smith, 84, of Minneapolis, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Victory Health and Rehab in Minneapolis. He was born November 9, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Anthony and Lois (Klipstein) Smith. He graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1955. He married Kathleen Peterson and the couple lived in Minneapolis where they raised their family and later divorced. Gerald worked at Albertson's in North Minneapolis for many years and also worked as a deliver driver for a printing company in St. Paul. He was an easy going man who enjoyed anything sports related. He was an avid fan of the Twins, Vikings and Gophers and enjoyed watching golf. He is survived by children, Mark Peterson of Minneapolis, Cindy (Curtis) Love of Las Vegas, David Smith of Minneapolis and Dana (James Wimbush) Smith of Owatonna; four grandchildren, Shannon (Will) Fritz of Waseca, Timothy Platt of Las Vegas, Nick Platt of Big Lake and Gabrielle Brown of Las Vegas; great grandchildren, Autum Fritz, Ava Fritz, Adrian Love, and Hannah Silvey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Lois and his ex-wife, Kathleen Smith (December2012). A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.
