Gerald Dale Zig Howard, 71, of Kenyon, died Monday, January 11, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born December 8, 1944 in Owatonna the son of Russell and Gertrude (Locke) Howard. He attended Claremont High School. He was united in marriage to Joan Oreen Peterson on January 19, 1964 in Wanamingo. They lived in Kenyon and raised their son, Scott. The couple later divorced. On November 28, 1982 Gerald and Ramona Spindler were united in marriage in Owatonna. During this time Jerry worked in security. The couple later divorced. In July of 1997, Gerald and Lynn Bettin were united in marriage at Rice Lake State Park. Gerald was the owner/operator of Jerry's Painting Service where he and Lynn worked together. He painted many things over many years. Gerald and Lynn later divorced but remained close friends. He was a creative man and saw beauty in everything. He was an avid fisherman, bird and big game hunter who later gave up the hunt, greatly enjoying the opportunity to photograph the beauty of the wildlife instead. Zig could often be found eagle watching with a cup of coffee in hand. He is survived by his children; Scott (Carol Ciffra) Howard of Faribault, Nathan (Elizabeth) Howard of Faribault, Holly (David) Feidt of Kenyon; three grandchildren, Lindsay Howard of Byron, Brody Parks of Kenyon, Blake Feidt of Kenyon; one great grandson, Benjamin Martin of Byron; siblings; Gladys Mensing of Owatonna, Karen (Wesley) Grant of Kasson, Trudy Howard of Claremont, Harvey (Carol) Howard of Faribault. Gerald is further survived by his dear friends Joan (Peterson) Wrolstad of Kenyon and Lynn Howard of Owatonna. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ralph, Gordy, Earl, Harold and Dorothy Keller and his children's mother, Ramona Meyer in June of 2011. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 4pm to 8pm and on Friday from 9am to 10am at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. A memorial service will be held at the Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 10am with Pastor Jim Oberg of Associated Church officiating.
