Giles Max Christenson, 74, of Medford, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 28, 2019 at his home.
He was born March 31, 1945 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Claude and Doris (Richardson) Christenson. He grew up in Medford where he attended school. He joined the United States Army on December 8, 1964 and served in Germany. On November 16, 1967 he was honorably discharged. He married Sandi Schmanski on August 30, 1969 in Medford. Giles worked at Metro Office Parks in Richfield, Nutting Truck and Caster in Faribault and Modern Metal in Owatonna retiring in August, 2014.
Giles enjoyed doing mechanic work on cars and mowers, fishing, heavy equipment, anything train related, watching high school sports, stockcar races and visiting with anyone. You quickly learned he was a very candid man. He was a man of "shortcuts" which usually turned into the long way to get somewhere. Giles was a member of Elevation North Church in Owatonna where he faithfully attended, served, and invited anyone to attend services. Giles was a proud, 39 year member of AA. Most important to him was his family and his pets. He especially loved and was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sandi Christenson of Medford; daughter, Amy (Charlie Berg) Gedicke of Owatonna; grandchildren, Jacob Christenson, Chance (Tiffany Gilbertson) Christenson, Carter Christenson, Jason Gedicke and Annelise (Andie) Gedicke; great-grandchildren, Harmony and Aiden Christenson; siblings, Paul (Karol) Christenson of Florida and Julie Jones of Longville; sister-in-law, Gwen (Mark) Lysne; special aunt, Leora Richardson and of course his beloved pets, Millie, Misty and Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Doris; son, Cory Christenson and other relatives and friends
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM and on Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.
