Gladys Ericson, 83, of Owatonna, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at New Richland Care Center. Gladys was born April 23, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Joseph and Carola (Ciupka) Matuzny. She attended Holy Cross Parochial Grade School and Sheridan High School. Gladys was united in marriage to Richard A. Ericson on June 25, 1949 in Minneapolis. The started their new life together in Richfield and in 1959 moved to Owatonna. After Gladys raised her children, she worked for the Super 8 motel as a housekeeper and at the Owatonna High School as a custodian and in the lunchroom where she loved and was loved by all the students. An intramural basketball team called themselves, 'Team Gladys' and had her picture on their tee shirts. She could not go anywhere without someone coming up and saying 'hello.' Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. She enjoyed vacationing at Farm Island Lake, watching old movies, listening to music and dancing, going out to dinner and shopping with her daughters. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Diane (and Bernie) Moe of Owatonna; Cheryl (and Curt) Summer of Owatonna; a sister, Wanda Warden of Mounds View; and four grandchildren, Jeff and Amber Moe and Scott and Matthew Summer. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard (2002), her parents, two brothers, Michael and Anthony and two sisters, Bernice and Frances. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating.
