Gladys Marie Schroht, 77, of Owatonna, died Friday, July 18, 2025, at The Woodlands Care Center of St. John's Fountain Lake Community in Albert Lea.
She was born November 7, 1947, on the farm near Geneva, Minnesota the daughter of Dick and Esther (Miers) VanRavenhorst. Gladys graduated from Ellendale High School in 1965. On January 8, 1966, Gladys was united in marriage to Ralph Schroht at Clarks Grove Baptist Church. She then started working at Herters in Waseca for a brief time before working at Truth Hardware for 40 years. Over the years, Gladys crocheted many dishcloths, painted ceramics, color by number, and baked delicious donuts, brownies and rhubarb pie. Ralph and Gladys enjoyed numerous fishing trips together whether it was on the open water or on ice. Gladys loved the Lord greatly and wanted to share His love with those around her.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ralph Schroht of Owatonna; brothers, Brian VanRavenhorst (and partner Diane Westcott) of International Falls, Steven (and Debi) VanRavenhorst of Clarks Grove; sisters, Dorothy Young of Granite Falls, AnnaLee Heemsbergen of Albert Lea, Carol (and Donn) Riskedahl of Clarks Grove; sister-in-law, Joan Sutter of Hastings; adopted family members, Ben, Heidi, Kate, Cora, and Macy, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Esther VanRavenhorst; brothers-in-law, John Heemsbergen, Richard Young, Dennis Sutter, and niece, Bernice Brown.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 5PM to 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie.
