Glen R. Anderson, 84, of Owatonna, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Homestead Hospice House. Glen was born on 15-April-30 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Edwin and Almina (Mulkins) Anderson. Glen graduated from OHS in 1948 and excelled in football, baseball and track. Glen always had a passion for racing and in high school he raced hot rods. He went on to race sprint cars from 1958 to 1962 and held two track records at the Steele County Fairgrounds. From 1948 through 1950 he worked as an engine rebuilder and cabinetmaker. Glen was united in marriage to Bernadette Zabel on November 21, 1951 in Faribault, MN. The couple made their home in Owatonna. In January of 1951 Glen enlisted with the Army National Guard. He was on active duty during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from active duty in October of 1952. Following his honorable discharge from active duty he worked for the Army National Guard as unit administrator in Owatonna retiring in 1992 completing 41 years of service. Besides racing and being a jack of all trades Glen enjoyed Big Band music, dancing, playing cards and football. He is survived by his wife Bernadette; daughter, Glenda (and Luther) Hanson; sons, Gregg (and Kathy) Anderson, Mark (and Melanie) Anderson all of Owatonna; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, son-in-law and extended family. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Monday, April 6, 2015, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna with Pastor John Linde officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Patient Care Fund Owatonna, Steele County Military Funeral Unit or donor's choice.
