Glenda M. Braaten, 92, of Owatonna, died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie. She was born August 8, 1919 in Blooming Prairie Township, Airline the daughter of Benjamin and Amanda (Munck) Hansen. Glenda attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Blooming Prairie High School with the class of 1937; she then attended Winona State and later graduated from Mankato. She married Stanley Braaten on December 26, 1942 in Louisville, KY. Glenda taught rural schools in Steele County, and also taught school in Claremont, and later with the Owatonna School District retiring in 1983. She was a very active member at First Baptist Church, where she was involved with Bible Study. She was also a hospital Auxiliary volunteer and helped at the Village of Yesteryear. Glenda enjoyed traveling, and high school and college sports. She is survived by three sons, Terrance (and Brenda) Braaten of Omaha, NE, Timothy (and Linda) Braaten of Brownwood, TX, and Thomas (and Cheryl) Braaten of Missouri City, TX. She is also survived by ten grandchildren Debbie (and Mike) Pung, Tammie (and Stephen) Armstrong, Jeff (and Jeanne) Braaten, Melissa Braaten, Sarah (and John) Ferguson, Christopher (and Meredith) Braaten, B.J. Braaten, Amanda (and Kenneth) Stansberger, Adam Braaten, and Brad Plagman; eleven great grandchildren, two brothers Harold Hansen of Blooming Prairie, Merton (and Jeanne) Hansen of Johnson City, IA, sister Phyllis Schutter of Bozeman, MT, special nephew Elwood 'Jr'(and Judith) Hansen of Owatonna, special niece Heidi Thompson of Blooming Prairie, and sister in law Betty (and Gerald) Johnson of Owatonna. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Ellwood, and Burnett. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday September 27, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at First Baptist Church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Reverend Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church or the donor''s choice.
