Gloria M. Boyum, 88, of Kenyon, died Saturday, December 19, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 13, 1932, in Webster Township, Rice County, the daughter of Eddie and Helen (Fossum) Halverson. Gloria attended country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Northfield High School and attended Augsburg College. Gloria worked as a dental assistant for a short period. On October 26, 1957, she married Arvid Boyum and they made their home in rural Kenyon where they farmed together side by side. Gloria was a homemaker taking care of her family, worked on the farm and also drove tractor. Her life was centered around her faith, she was baptized and confirmed at Trondhjem Lutheran Church in rural Lonsdale. Gloria was an active member of Hauge Lutheran Church. There she taught Sunday school, and was in the church choir and helped with the Ladies Aid. When Gloria was younger, she sang in a trio with her sisters. They sang at local churches, funerals and weddings. Gloria also sang in the Augsburg choir. She enjoyed dancing in dance line, playing shuffleboard and Rook. Gloria loved gardening especially her flowers and vegetables. Gloria and Arvid wintered at Bentsen Grove Resort in Palmview, TX for many years. There they made friends that were like their second family. Gloria was known for being competitive and athletic passing along those traits to her children and grandchildren. She became their avid fan and attended many of their activities and sporting events throughout the years. She is survived by her husband Arvid Boyum of Kenyon; son, Clair (Brenda) Boyum of Kenyon; daughter, Kaia (Patrick) Pelstring of Mound; grandchildren, Bradley (Elizabeth) Boyum, Curtis (Elizabeth) Boyum, David (Tricia) Boyum, Zachary Emerson, Sadie Emerson and Nathaniel Emerson; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jackson, Davisen, Isabella, Charles, Sydney and Sylvia; sisters, Lyla Arneson of Northfield, Margaret Heglund of Columbus, MO and Arlys Wiese of Northfield; many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Brynn Boyum; brother, Gordon Halverson and sister, Elna Hansen. Visitation will be at Hauge Lutheran on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Hauge Lutheran with The Reverend Gideon Johnson officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 PM in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. Due to current restrictions, social distancing and requirements will be followed for the services.
