Obituary

Gloria Rachel (Johnson) Nupson, 90, of Owatonna, MN, died Friday, November 17, 2015 at KODA Living Community in Owatonna. Gloria was born November 12, 1925, in a farmhouse near Dalbo, MN, the sixth of eighth children of Swedish immigrant parents, Charles and Lillian (Erickson) Johnson. Gloria attended Dalbo School, and graduated from Cambridge High School. She attended Bethel College and the U of M. Gloria met her husband, Donald Nupson, while she was teaching in Chandler, MN, where Donald was a depot agent for the Milwaukee Railroad. They lived in several communities throughout southern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota. Gloria taught English in various schools, starting the Special Education program in Grand Meadow, MN. In 1974 she began working in Quality Control at Brown Printing in Waseca, retiring after 20 years. Gloria was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and in the church kitchen. She hosted a weekly Healthy Seniors group. She enjoyed playing Mahjong, reading, crossword puzzles, making her own cookbook, writing her memoirs, cooking, entertaining, needlepoint, and traveling. She traveled to Europe twice, visiting various countries including Sweden, the birthplace of her parents. She also traveled to Okinawa, Japan. She is remembered especially for her warm hospitality. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have fond memories of her reading to them. Gloria accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at a tent meeting as a child. She lived a faithful life unto the Lord, teaching her children how to live a godly life by example. She is survived by daughters, Linda (and Thain) Nelson-Dikkers of Owatonna, Sally (and Larry) Johnson of Owatonna, Bonnie Gnemi of Derby, KS; sons, Lee (and Laura) Nupson of Cass Lake, MN, Scott (and Ellen) Nupson of Deatsville, AL, 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, as well as 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Visitation will be at Grace Baptist Church on Thursday, December 3, from 1 pm to 2 pm. Memorial services will follow at 2 pm with Chaplain, Lt Col Scott Nupson officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
