(Alden Allen) Goodwin Boyum, 85, of Kenyon passed away at North Ridge View in Kenyon on Sunday, October 2, 2016 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Goodwin was born on April 25, 1931 in Freemont Township at home to Ida (Brattegjerde) and Andrew George Boyum in Winona County, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Arendahl Lutheran Church. He attended 1st and 2nd grade at country school in rural Kenyon while staying with his aunt and uncle, Albert and Anna (Brattegjerde) Ulefoss. He then returned home, attended Grove country school and graduated from Peterson High School in 1949. He was a full time crop and dairy farmer in Utica until being drafted into the US ARMY in1952 and was active in the Korean war until 1954. After his enlistment was over, he went to agriculture school at the University of Minnesota and continued farming at the home farm. On October 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Amy M. Ullestad of Thompson, Iowa. In 1966, he relocated his farming operation to rural Kenyon where he farmed until retirement. He and his wife raised three boys, Steven and (Tracy Shelstad) of Wanamingo, Bruce and (fiance Carrie Foss) of Kenyon and Tim and (Heather Mohler) of Kenyon. Goodwin was on church council at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Asplelund, Minnesota as well as being on the planning and zoning committee in Wanamingo Township. He enjoyed farming, family, and trucking and even a little fishing. Goodwin is survived by his wife Amy, brother, Kenley Boyum of Plymouth, sister, Imogene (Allen) Nelson of Northfield, three sons and eight grandchildren, Kristin, Kari, Hannah, Benjamin, Daniel, Bethany, Samantha, and John. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ida and three brothers, Andrew, Alden, Allen. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5th, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 6th, at 10:30 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Aspelund with Reverend Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 PM in Arendahl Cemetery of rural Peterson, MN. Refreshments to follow both service and burial.
