Gordon 'Gordy' Eastman, 75, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at District One Hospital, Faribault. Gordon Eastman was born March 25, 1937 in Red Wing, Minnesota the son of Lester and Lillie (Ward) Eastman. As a young boy he was the paper boy and won many awards for being a very reliable paper boy. He attended school in Red Wing graduating in 1956. While in high school, Gordy also ran a gas station in Goodhue. He entered the United States Navy on August 9, 1956 in Red Wing and served on the repair ship, USS Amphian. He received his honorable discharge on August 8, 1962. Gordon began working at the Owatonna State School power plant. Through work is where he met his future wife Mattie Von Ruden while she was also working at the state school. The couple was married on August 4, 1962 at Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont. He continued working at the state school until health issues forced him into retirement. He then later worked for AMPI in Owatonna as a boiler room engineer. He enjoyed going to the Kernel Restaurant everyday and seeing the Kernel girls. He also enjoyed camping at Cedar Lake. Gordy was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the AM Vets. He is survived by his wife, Mattie Eastman of Owatonna; a daughter Roxanne Eastman of Owatonna; a son Robert (and Susie) Eastman of Orono; two granddaughters Maddie and Emma. Gordy is also survived by a sister, Janice (and John) Peterson of Menasha WI; and an aunt Elisha Ellingson of Zumbrota. He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother who died at birth, Gregory. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
