Grayce Marion Knopf, 88, of Kenyon, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Grayce was born April 9, 1923 in McGrath, Minnesota, Aitkin County, to Arthur and Martha (Eken) Nelson. She attended Secretarial College in St. Paul, MN. After school she worked at Northfield, MN, where she met Don Knopf. They were married August 9, 1945 in Aitkin County, MN. After their marriage, they moved to Kenyon to Don''s family farm. Grayce and Don were instrumental in founding the Kenyon Sleigh and Cutter Parade. They also were organizers of the MN Sheriff''s Wagon Train. Don was the official driver of the St. Paul Police Dept. Black Maria and the U.S. Marshall Wagon, and Grayce helped him with all these efforts. One of their highlights was participation in the U.S. Presidential Inaugural Parade in 1989, where they were the Minnesota delegation. Grayce was named Kenyon''s Citizen of the Year in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (and James) Hall of Germantown, MD; her granddaughter, Kristi (and Justin) Fischback and great granddaughter, Maeja Grace of Staunton, VA; her granddaughter, Kelly (and Michael) Schwartzbeck and great granddaughter, Kylee Savanna of Frederick, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Don, in 1991. Visitation will be at United Methodist Church, Kenyon on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM . Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM at United Methodist Church, Kenyon with Reverend Dana Houck officiating. Interment will be in the Wheeling Evangelical Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. Lucas Care Center, 500 SE 1st St., Faribault, MN 55021. Michaelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
