Gwendolyn Ardath (Grunz) Fichten, 95, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Koda Living Community. She was born April 30, 1923 in Owatonna the daughter of Daniel C. and Juletta H. (Jansa) Grunz. Gwen graduated from Owatonna High School in 1941. She started work right out of high school for Security Bank and Trust Company. She worked for them for 38 years as a secretary in the installment loan department. She also worked part time for the Steele County Treasurer, her classmate, Norbert McCrady. On October 26, 1947 she married Richard T. Fichten in Owatonna. Gwen was a member of Associated Church where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of Circle Five. She was also a member of Sons of Norway, VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. She was a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary and Past President as well as Woman of Achievement of Owatonna Business Women. Gwen enjoyed arts, music, attending operas, watching dog shows on tv, needlepoint and traveling. She is survived by her children, Nancy Fichten Rucks of Owatonna, Daniel Fichten of Owatonna; grandchildren, Ashley Rucks, Taylor Rucks, Connor Rucks, Kayleigh Fichten, Emily Fichten; great grandchildren, Lauren Rucks, Mara Rucks; sister, Elaine Beich; nephew, Jonathan (and Jen) Beich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Fichten. Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at The Associated Church at 1pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Owatonna Foundation, Owatonna Arts Center, Homestead Hospice Patient Care Fund, Associated Church, Owatonna Public Library, or to the donor's choice.
