Obituary

Harlan Alfred Steberg, 90, of Zumbrota, died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Harlan Alfred Steberg was born on April 14, 1927 in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota the son of Alvin R. and Olga A. (Loken) Steberg. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Harlan graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1945. On October 25, 1947 he married Lou Belle Friese at Lands Lutheran Church. Together they milked cows, raised beef cattle, pigs, chickens and sheep. They were later divorced. Harlan remained in his home until 2010 when he moved to numerous nursing homes, most recently residing at Kenyon Sunset Home. Harlan was devoted to his first love, farming. He also custom combined for other local farmers. He loved to tell stories, chuckling at each and every one. He had a great love for antique cars and buggies and hoped one day to refurbish one. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, playing harmonica, hunting, fishing, daily trips to downtown Wanamingo to visit with the locals and speaking Norwegian with whomever would listen. Harlan will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a member of Lands Lutheran Church. He is survived by his children, Mary Lou Berg of Faribault, Gwen Sahf of Owatonna, Marlene (Chuck) Mayhew of Kellogg, and Glen (Julie) Steberg of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Brian (Becky Schmitz) and Steven Berg of Faribault, Cheryl (Lance) Langford of Webster, Becky Walderon of Owatonna, Tim (Kathy Wrede) Stechmann of Faribault, Michael (Leslie) Mayhew of Maple Grove, Ryan Mayhew of Shakopee, Missy (Luke) Marble of Mendota Heights, Calvin, Wade, Luke and Dylan Steberg all of Zumbrota, Nicholas Steberg of Wanamingo, and Jesse (Kelly) Steberg of Kenyon; great-grandchildren, Kory and Jewel Berg, Tyler and Rita Langford, Jasmynn and Jesse Stechmann, Jacob (Christina Edelbach) Walderon, Liam Mayhew, Aryn and Hunter Marble, Trevor and Colton Steberg and one great-great-grandson, Carson Walderon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Olga Steberg; sons, Charles and Lyle Steberg; brother, Alvin Steberg, Jr. and a sister, Aileen Schliep. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Lands Lutheran Church, 16640 Hwy. 60 Blvd, Zumbrota with Reverend David Krinke officiating. A visitation will be at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lands Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family of Harlan Steberg.
