Harold Rolland Berndt, 80, of Winona, died Monday, December 23, 2019 at his home. He was born April 22, 1939 in Elysian, Minnesota the son of Herman and Esther (Gehrke) Berndt. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1957. On June 12, 1959, he married Janet Merritt. The couple lived in Elysian and in 1973, moved to Owatonna. Harold was a truck driver for 30 years. When not driving, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and was very proud of them. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owatonna. He is survived by his wife, Janet Berndt of Winona; children, Craig (and Diane) Berndt of Owatonna, Mike (and Nancy) Berndt of Owatonna, Heidi (and Randy) McNally of Winona and Kurt (and Renee) Berndt of Owatonna; grandchildren, Brandon Berndt, Bryce Berndt, Breanne (and Shawn) Jore, Dustin (and Susan) Berndt, Jenna (and Mike Tassi) Berndt, Joshua (and Cindy) Rutherford, Jessica (and Jason) Spooner, Robert, Douglas (and Sarina) Saro, Shawn (and Sarah) Berndt, Stephanie (and Taylor) Armstrong, Susannah (and David) Nuetzman; 12 great-grandchildren and siblings, Delores (and Leonard) Wolfe, Lorraine Lyons, Gladys (and Stan) Merritt, Lucille (and Don) Roemhildt, Ronald (and Nancy) Berndt, Norman (and Nancy) Berndt and sister-in-law, Diane Berndt. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Esther; brother, Edward Berndt and brother-in-law, John Lyons. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM . Funeral services will be held December 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.
