Harold L. Janke , 87, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Traditions II. He was born August 4, 1923 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Frank A. and Mabel (Gese) Janke. He attended country school in rural Owatonna and then went to work with his dad on the family farm. He married Carroll R. Ferguson on December 30, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church. They lived on the Janke family farm in Meriden Township, Steele County, where he had a dairy herd and cash cropped. In 1997, the farm was recognized as a Century Farm and in the fall Harold retired from farming. Throughout the years, Harold also worked at Souba family farm and St. John Cemetery where he also served on the board. Harold was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. Harold enjoyed old time music, playing cards, watching Vikings games and especially Twins games. He also had a passion for cutting firewood and loved reading newspapers. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joys in his life. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Carroll Janke of Owatonna; two sons, David (and Lois) Janke and Daniel (and Sandy) Janke all of Owatonna; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (and Todd) Nelson, Jennifer Janke, Jessica Janke (and fianc, Dillan McCoy), David Janke Jr., Michael (and Allison) Janke, and Christine Janke (and Dustin Sletten), Kim Larson, and Katie Hoffman; one step grandchildren, Amy (and Greg) Young; eight great grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; sister, Joyce (and Victor) Buecksler. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM . Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with The Reverend Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
