Harold Theroy Vangness, 95, of Zumbrota, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Zumbrota Care Center. He was born October 2, 1921 in Hamilton County, Iowa the son of Jacob and Julia (Phillops) Vangness. His family moved to Dodge County, MN in 1924. On March 23, 1954, he married Alma Giesler Hopkins in Rochester, MN. They made their home on a farm in Dodge County. Harold was an active member of the Concord Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and a board member for many years. He was a charter member of the Dodge County Zoning and a member of the Concord Cemetery Board. Harold sold Dekalb seed corn for 19 years. He worked for Concord Township for 27 years plowing snow and blading roads. He enjoyed golf, camping, fishing and bowling. Harold was inducted into the Rochester Area Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1995. He is survived by his wife Alma Vangness of Zumbrota; children, Robert (Dianne)Vangness of West Concord, Marlene Ray of Owatonna and Karen Schultz of Mankato; sisters, Shirley Giesler of Dodge Center and Florence Wangen of Spicer; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Julia and siblings, Irving, Jeffrey, Obert, Luther and Kenneth Vangness, Harriet Wilson, Alice Warehime and Ruth Gunderson. A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home, 204 Eugene Street, West Concord from 5-8pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 and at church one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Concord Church of Christ with Reverend Tim Smith and Reverend Peter Moen officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township. A luncheon will immediately follow the interment. Memorials preferred to Concord Church of Christ.
