Harris R. Hjermstad 90, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. He was born September 11, 1923 in Kenyon, Minnesota the son of Carl and Edith (Foss) Hjermstad. Harris graduated from Kenyon High School, and then attended St. Olaf College and then Luther College in Decorah, IA where he graduated with his teaching degree. He then returned to Kenyon where he taught history and other classes for over thirty years. Harris enjoyed being around family and helping take care of family members as they got older. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, and being a spectator at many sporting events. Raising, training, and showing Quarter Horses was a favorite pastime for Harris and others, and it was something that he shared with many friends and family. He is survived by sister, Eleanor Traurig of Kenyon, nieces and nephews David (Carey) Hjermstad, Kim Scheller, Kay (Giusepp) Alig, Margaret (Pat) Williams, Kai (Karen) Hjermstad, Don Taurig, and Bob Taurig. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and their families, and many cousins. He was preceded in death his parents and two brothers Clifford and Joel Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Monday April 21, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday April 21, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon.
