Harvey Silas Milton Bjerke, 93, of West Concord, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Sunrise Cottages, Rochester. Harvey was born on the family farm April 17, 1919 in Twin Valley, Minnesota the son of Helmer and Sophie (Olson) Bjerke. There he was raised along with his for siblings. He was baptized into faith on July 13, 1919 and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Twin Valley. Harvey graduated from Twin Valley High School and later served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Harvey attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus, earning his degree in Business Administration. Harvey retired from the University of Minnesota Agriculture Extension Service as an associate professor after 25 years. He married Harriet Knutson. She died in 1962. He then was united in marriage to June Kaul on December 18, 1965. Harvey managed the Citizens State Bank in Mantorville for 10 years. He was co-founder of Trinity Lutheran Church of West Concord. He also served on the school board and town council for West Concord. Harvey and June enjoyed retirement years RVing and golfing in 48 states. He is survived by his very loving wife of 42 years June Bjerke of Kasson; two daughters, Barbara (and Dennis) Erickson of Pine City; Cathy (and Gordon) Peterson of Olathe, KS; three sons, Bruce (and Joan) Bjerke of Shoreview; Michael (and Jody) Bjerke of Appleton; Steve (and Vickie) Bjerke of Elko. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Harriet Bjerke; his parents; four siblings who were his best friends, Hazel Gunderson; Adeline Hilmo; John Berke; and Erwin Berke. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Chris Brekke officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 295, West Concord and Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
