Helen I. J. Larson, 88, of Owatonna, died Monday, February 16, 2015 at Clare Bridge Cottage, Owatonna.
Helen was born April 19, 1926 in Aurora Township, Minnesota the daughter of Carl and Dagney (Prestegard) Selthun. She attended country school. Helen then worked at the bakery in Owatonna and also for a Dr. in Rochester and for area farmers. She was united in marriage to Raymond Ole Larson on October 6, 1946 at Aurora Lutheran Church. She was proud to be a farmer's wife and working all aspects of the farm from raising chickens, gardening, driving tractor to milking cows. Ole died October 25, 1988.
Helen enjoyed taking care of people and loved to bake and can. She was a member of the Buttons and Bows extension club and an active member of the Aurora Lutheran Church. She served as superintendent of the Sunday school, Officer of WELCA, and working at the Aurora Diner at the Steele County Free Fair. Helen enjoyed going on trips, especially Las Vegas, going to casinos, playing cards and sharing a cup of coffee and pie with family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Larry Larson of Claremont; Wayne (and Jean) Larson of Claremont; a daughter, Cheryl (and Steve) Thompson of Owatonna; six grandchildren, Ryan (and Heather) Larson of Claremont; Angie (and Brad) Eckel of Eagan; Jessie (and Ruben) Kubista of Blooming Prairie; Christina (and Josh) Korpi of Owatonna; Stephanie Thompson (and fianc�© Andrew Feld) of Coon Rapids; Chad (and Natalie) Thompson of Littleton, CO; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole; her parents; two brothers, Earl and Clayton and a son, Gary at infancy.
The family would like to thank the Homestead Hospice House staff as well as Clare Bridge for all their care and comfort provided for their mother and also to Reverend Jonathan Davis for his words of comfort.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Aurora Lutheran Church with The Reverend Jonathan Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery in Aurora Township. Memorials are preferred to Aurora Lutheran Church or Homestead Hospice.
