Helen A. Jacobsen, 90, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House. Helen was born on July 17, 1919 the daughter of John and Caroline (Benson) Kruger in Newry Township, near Blooming Prairie. There she was raised and attended District 1 Benson Country School until the 8th grade. She was needed at home as her mother had died and she helped with farm work and house keeping. She met and later married Harry Jacobsen on February 3, 1937 in Austin. They lived on the family farm near Blooming Prairie and later moved to Geneva. They then moved to Albert Lea and then to Owatonna where Helen worked at the Canning Co. later retiring after 37 years. Harry died in 1979. Helen enjoyed many things especially taking bus trips after retirement. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, baking fresh bread and spending time with her family. Church was an important part of her life and she was involved with Lord of Love church circle and helped make quilts. She also enjoyed having lunch with her friends and former co-workers. She is survived by three daughters, Karen (and Tom) McMahon of Ellendale; Sandy (and William) Rosenau of Owatonna; Nancy (and Dannie) Steffen of Jordan; two sons, Jerry Jacobsen (Bonnie Johnston) of Medford; Ron (and Bobbi) Jacobsen of Woodland Park, CO; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kruger of Blooming Prairie; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, a daughter, Judy, three brothers, Willard, Clayton, Russell and a sister, Lorraine Marsh. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Owatonna with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Bixby. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice, Our Savior''s Lutheran Church or donor''s choice.
