Henry Lawrence 'Larry' Jante was born July 29, 1929 in Garner, IA to Henry and Louise Jante. The family moved to a farm in the Claremont, MN area in 1934. He attended District 13 School near Rice Lake, MN for 8 years and then went on to Claremont High School. In March of 1946 the family moved to another farm in Hayfield, MN. Lawrence attended Hayfield High School until he contracted polio in August during the big polio epidemic. He then spent 3 years at the Sister Kenny Institute in Minneapolis at various locations. He finished high school and was the first student to graduate from the Sister Kenny Institute. He also graduated from Hayfield High School. In 1951 the Jante family moved to Owatonna, MN. Lawrence began working at Glenn Wilson Transfer Company and later at Gateway Transfer Company until he retired. Lawrence enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting in spite of being in a wheel chair since 1946. He also aspired to be a farmer but since that was not possible he worked with and formed a partnership with his best friend Butch Marquette to fulfill his farming dreams. He also enjoyed playing cards and is rumored to have had a great sense of humor. His hobbies included photography and playing the accordion. Lawrence is survived by a special niece Sandra Jante Dixon (Robert) Ligon Owatonna, MN, a step-son, Brian (Karen) Nelson Spicer, MN, a brother, Lester (Jane) Jante Medford, MN, and three sisters, Darlene Veerkamp Rochester, MN, Lucille (Vern) Rolfe Rochester, MN and Shirley (Jerry) Nesdahl San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Sirek and Dorothy Eaton. Visitation will be Monday June 25, 2012 from 5-8 P.M. at Michaelson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be held Tuesday June 26, 2012 at 2 P.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
