Homer P. Bauer, 72, of Kenyon, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Kenyon Sunset Home. He was born September 7, 1938 in Kenyon, Minnesota the son of Lawrence and Leona (Borchardt) Bauer. He attended Kenyon High School. He worked at Parvina Elevator in Faribault and Pirkl Implement in Faribault. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for B. H. Heselton Construction in Faribault for forty-two years retiring in 2004. He married Janice (Thomas) Dodds on April 4, 1970 in Faribault. In 1973, they moved on the farm in Richland Township. In 1986, they moved to Kenyon where Homer did snow removal and lawn mowing for his neighbors for many years. Homer was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles, and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and dancing. He also enjoyed his morning breakfast group in Kenyon and Ringo''s in Wanamingo and morning and afternoon coffee at Held''s Auto Center. He is survived by his wife Janice Bauer of Kenyon; children, Deborah (and John) Maki of Kenyon, Tom (and Sue) Dodds of Kenyon, Cindy (and Donnie Vavra) Luebke of Rochester, Jodi (and Bob) Vanderheiden of St. Michael, Jason (and Tricia) Bauer of Wanamingo; fourteen grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 6 brothers, Henry (and Runice) Bauer of Kenyon, Haven (and Judy) Bauer of Kenyon, Helmer Bauer of Kenyon, Harris (and Gert) Bauer of Kenyon, Harlow (and Margaret) Bauer of Kenyon, Herschel (and Lois) Bauer of Zumbrota; two sisters, Hazel Quam of Minneapolis, and Hope (and Del) Hedtke of Eagan; sister-in-law, Yvonne Bauer of Rochester; former son-in-laws, Doug Klatt of Kenyon and Gregg Luebke of Plainview; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Morris Thomas Dodds Jr., brother, Harold Bauer, and sister Harriet Bauer. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM . Funeral services will be held June 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Kenyon Fire Department, Wanamingo Fire Department, VFW Operation Uplink, or Faribault Area Hospice.
