Howard J. Hanson , 92, of Owatonna, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Owatonna Hospital. He was born July 29, 1916 in Berlin Township, the son of Olof and Caroline (Olson) Hanson. He attended country school in Berlin Township, and then married Irene Eaker June 30, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church Havana Township. The couple moved to Waterloo, IA where Howard drove truck and worked on a dairy farm. Howard and Irene then moved back to Berlin Township and farmed until retiring in 1990. Irene died August 31, 1996. Howard was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was a past member of the church council. He also enjoyed woodworking, reading, and collecting antique cars. He is survived by four sons Leslie (Carol) Hanson of Plano, TX, Raymond (Sandra) Hanson of Kearney, NE, Gordon (Donna) Hanson of New Richland, MN, Glen (Linda) Hanson of Owatonna, MN, six daughters Marilyn (Wayne) Reistad of Owatonna, MN, Janet (Roger) Johnson of New Richland, MN, Carol Proechel of Berlin, WI, Nancy Piazza of Pueblo, CO, Gladys (Michael) Tressler of Rio Rancho, NM, Julie (Hugh) Carlson of St. Paul, MN; he is also survived by twenty three grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his wife Irene, and one brother Elmer, son in law Dwayne Proechel. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday October 5 from 3-7 PM and at Zion Lutheran on Monday from 10-11 AM . Funeral service will be held Monday October 6, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with The Reverend Gary Rusinko officiating. Interment will be in the Danish Lutheran Cemetery in Lemond Township.
