Howard J. Quimby, age 86, of Kenyon died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis from complications from hip surgery. Howard was born June 17, 1928 in Cherry Grove Township, the son of John and Lucille (Comstock) Quimby. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. He then attended and graduated from Wanamingo High School. He continued to help farm. Howard entered the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He received his honorable discharge and returned to Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Marilynn Johnston Rhinehart on June 10, 1961 in Victor, IA. The couple built a house on the family farm and raised hogs, beef cattle, dairy cows and also grew sweet corn for Green Giant. Howard also did custom corn shelling for area farmers. Marilynn died September 1, 2005. Howard continued farming until 2014 when he entered the Kenyon Sunset Home. Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trap shooting and was a member of the Wanamingo Sportsmen's Club. He is survived by a son, Jim (and Dawn) Quimby of Edina; two grandsons, John Quimby of Minneapolis; LT Ben Quimby of Fort Riley, KS; and a brother, Robert Quimby of rural Kenyon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilynn; his parents and a sister Patricia Overby. Visitation for Mr. Quimby will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord with the Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township. Military honors will be provided by the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard.
