Idella M. Conwell, 89, of Wanamingo, MN, died peacefully Sunday, May 31, 2020, due to complications of a stroke. She was born August 28, 1930, to Theodore and Estella (Wead) Opem in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Upon graduating from Lanesboro High School in 1948, she moved to Rochester, Minnesota, to begin her floral career with Fiksdal Flowers. She worked at Kinsman Floral in Austin, MN, before becoming the head wedding designer for Bachman's at Southdale Center in Edina, and owned and operated Rose Boulevard Floral in Kenyon. On October 20, 1951, she married Richard Soderberg in Minneapolis. On January 26, 1965, she married Jerry Conwell in Milbank, South Dakota. They were later divorced. Starting in 1950, she developed a life-long love of genealogy and history, tracing her family history back to Norway in 1650. She turned her love into working as the director of the Dodge County Historical Society in Mantorville, MN. She is survived by her sister Marian (Gordon) Jenssen of Riceville, IA; son, David (Edna) Conwell of Castaic, CA; two daughters, Laurie (Timothy) Hanson of Wanamingo, and Dawn Conwell of West Concord; 12 grandchildren: Mark (Sarah) Hanson of Watertown, WI, Brittany (Ryan) Boeddeker of Rochester, Benjamin (Maria) Hanson of Rochester, Christine (Rhys) McKeel of Castaic, CA, Andrea (Steven) Skaran of Oronoco, Arielle Conwell of Los Angeles, CA, Caitlyn (Brandon) Breecher of Apple Valley, Samuel (Sarah Wegner) of St. Paul; Mackenzie (Daniel) Moore of Ankeny, IA, Micah Hanson of Wanamingo, Clara Hanson of Wanamingo, and Emma Hanson of Wanamingo; 16 grandchildren: Zachary, Grace, Felicity, and Alexander (Zander) Hanson of Watertown, Jakiyh, Maleeya, Malaysha, and Myles (MJ) Boeddeker of Rochester, Kiersten, Thorin, and Freya Hanson of Rochester, Edward, Emmett, Alice, and Silas Skaran of Oronoco, and Evangeline McKeel of Castaic, CA and nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Barbara Opem; one grandson and one granddaughter. Due to COVID-19, a private family burial will be held at North Highland Cemetery in Fillmore County, MN. Pallbearers will be Mark Hanson, Ben Hanson, Sam Hanson, Micah Hanson, Ryan Boeddekker, Steve Skaran, Brandon Breecher and Daniel Moore.
