Idella Muriel Nelson, 95, of Ellendale, died Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Whispering Oaks Place.

She was born December 16,1927 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Isaac and Elna (Nelson) Muri. Idella grew up outside Ellendale by Beaver Lake on the family farm. She attended country school through 8th grade. She then went to Ellendale High School. She was voted the 1944 Homecoming Queen and graduated in 1945. After high school Idella worked at Security National Bank, and Owatonna Public Utilities up until she married Roger Nelson on June 6th, 1948. After the couple were married Idella helped take care of the farm and enjoyed mowing their big yard. When Roger was working in the fields Idella would bring lunch out to him every day. After working all day, they would sit on their chairs in the front lawn and watch the traffic go by on Hwy 218, talking about their day.

Idella loved to garden, cook, sew clothes for herself and for her daughter Kay. She loved spending time at their trailer on Lake Emily. Idella was a member of the of the Bixby West Side Club and Owatonna Elks Club. Idella enjoyed traveling with her husband Roger.

She is survived by her daughter Kay (and Rich) Northrop of Chanhassen, son, Daryl (and Debbie)Nelson of Blooming Prairie; brother, Duane (and Addie) Muri of Rochester granddaughters, Kathy Wrede, Jennifer Servais, step-granddaughters Tasha Northrop, Emily Dahl, Tessie Northrop; great-grandchildren, Koda and Kade Servais.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Nelson; parents, Isaac and Elna Muri, son-in law Bill McKinstry.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Bixby. Memorials are preferred to the Steele County Food Shelf.
