Obituary

Inez May (Spading) Mills , 72, of Owatonna, now safely in the arms of Jesus after passing away peacefully Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Homestead Hospice House surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Inez was born July 14, 1935 the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Tillotson) Spading at their farm north of Douglas in New Haven Township of Olmsted County. She attended New Haven District 32 school prior to High school in Pine Island which required her to move to town to live with her grandparents Frank and Inez May (Fletcher) Spading (the latter her namesake). After graduating in 1953 she worked at Mahler''s Furniture Store in Pine Island where she met her future husband Ralph. They were married on July 3, 1959 by the Reverend David Achterkirch at the Douglas Methodist Church. Their son Joseph was born in 1962 in Zumbrota. The family later moved to Kasson where Inez was a loving stay-at-home mother. She also worked at the Hubble House in nearby Mantorville. In 1966 they moved to Owatonna and Inez worked at the canning factory and later at Cedarview Nursing Home. Beginning in the 1950's and up until the present she was a prolific and dedicated scrap booker, where she carefully documented the history of her family, extended family, friends and general news. She loved to watch birds at her feeders and she collected frog memorabilia of all types. Inez was a member of the United Methodist Church of Owatonna for over 40 years. She served many years as secretary to Faith Circle. The Circle members appreciated her secretarial skills and programs on subjects ranging from her family history to the Mayflower pilgrims. Inez is descended from William Brewster who sailed to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Her friends and family will miss her dearly but those waiting for her at God's side will greet her warmly. Our family wishes to thank all of her friends and care givers too numerous to mention who enjoyed her company over the years. Inez is survived by her son, Joseph (and Thuong) Mills of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Dalton, Amber, Brandon; brothers, Fred (and Lorraine) Spading, Merlin 'Mike' (and Elaine) Spading, Calvin Spading; sisters, Joyce Kjella, Dorothy (and Leonard) Miller, Rosemary (and Gene) Anding, Darlene (and Don) Frederickson; aunt, Lucille (Spading) Birchem; uncle, Russell Spading and numerous nieces and nephews.
