Inez H. Ohnstad Mills, 92, of Northfield, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Northfield Care Center. Inez was born August 26, 1922 in Sogn, Minnesota the daughter Martin and Marie (Nyhus) Ohnstad. At the age of 5 months, her mother passed away and she was given a loving home with her aunt and uncle, Carl and Martha (Ohnstad) Flom in the Kenyon area. She was confirmed at Holden Church and attended school graduating from Kenyon High School in 1941. She helped with area families in their homes. Inez was united in marriage to Dareld Mills on December 17, 1945 at Holden Lutheran Church. To this union, they had five sons. Dareld served during WWII and following his discharge, the couple made their home in Cannon Falls and Sogn where he was a cheese maker. They then moved to the farm that they rented for 41 years in the Nerstrand area. When they retired from farming they moved to the Cannon Falls area and later Northfield. Inez was a gardener and loved flowers. She grew lots of them over her life time. She was a member of Vang Lutheran Church and a member of WELCA. She enjoyed quilting in her prior years. She recently was well known for stocking caps. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (and Sharon) Mills of Hawthorne, CA; Stuart Mills of Northfield; Bradley (and Wendy) Mills of Cannon Falls; Mike (and Mary) Mills of Northfield; Brian and (Peggy) Mills of Northfield; her grandchildren, Eric (and Julie) Mills, Chad (and Sarah) Mills, Caleb (and Courtney) Mills, Kristi (and Nick) Lilleberg, Jill Lien, Gretchen (and Chris) Fierke, Brent (and Jamie) Mills, Greg (and Angie) Mills, Rhonda (and Nick) DuCharme, Rachel (and Glen) Vantries, and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dareld in 2001, her parents, her sisters, Mildred Wiberg, Stella Flom, Gladys Stenhaug, a brother, Arnold Ohnstad, foster brothers, Clarence Flom, Arlie Flom, foster sisters, Sadie Voxland, Agnes Doebler and two grandsons, Joey and Donald Mills. A graveside service for Inez will be 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Vang Lutheran Cemetery with the Reverend Paul Graham officiating. Memorials are preferred to the Vang Lutheran Cemetery or donor's choice. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon.
