Ingbert Alexander Wangen, 101, of Owatonna, died Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Birchwood Cottages.
He was born November 13, 1917 in Somerset Township the son of Magnus and Ida (Berg) Wangen. Ingbert graduated from Owatonna High School in 1936. In 1935, Ingbert won a brand new 1936 Chevy in a raffle at the Steele County Free Fair. He started working for Jostens in 1938 which led to his attending engravers school in Chicago. On September 20, 1942, he married Isabel Jacobson at Le Seuer River Lutheran Church near New Richland. The couple made their home in Owatonna. Ingbert's career with Jostens spanned 42 years until his retirement in 1980. In retirement, he continued engraving for 25 years with over 130 jewelry store customers around the country.
Ingbert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed drawing with charcoal. pencil sketching, making wine, woodworking, golfing, bowling and playing trumpet. He was a proud republican that enjoyed talking politics and reminiscing about President Reagan. Ingbert was honored to share the same birthday as his daughter, Phyllis.
He is survived by his wife, Isabel Wangen of Owatonna; daughter, Phyllis Wilson of Owatonna; granddaughter, Cindy (and Mike) Muldoon of Owatonna; grandson, Shannon (and Jean) Wilson of Owatonna; great grandchildren, Jeremy (and Ashlee), Brianna (and Nick) and Ryan Wilson, Joshua and Zachary Vogt; great great grandchildren, Jacob and Thea Wilson, Ava Wickham; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Wangen and half-brother, Lloyd Homuth
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10:30am at Michaelson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Todd Buegler will be officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
