Irene H. Spidahl, 88, of Kenyon, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born November 3, 1923 in Pekin, North Dakota the daughter of Martin and Gina (Thorson) Flaagan Irene graduated high school from Pekin, North Dakota, and then moved to the Twin Cities to start work at a factory. She was united in marriage to Ernest Spidahl in 1945, and the couple lived in Turtle Lake, WI. The couple lived in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area and then Cannon Falls, moving to Kenyon in 1972. Ernest died in 2003, and Irene later moved into Gunderson Gardens in Kenyon. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, fishing, and playing cards especially Canasta. She is survived by her children Wayne (and Marie) Spidahl of Kenyon, Gary (and Cheryl) Spidahl of Steilacoom, WA, Kay (and Vicki) Spidahl of Monroe, WI, Penny (and Bernard) Planteen of Cogswell, ND, and Greg (and Ladea) Spidahl of Zumbrota. Irene is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, one sister Amy Aaser of Detroit Lakes, and one brother Kenny (and Connie) Flaagen of Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Erva Spidahl, and three brothers Benard, Gilman, and Gordon. Visitation will be at Dale Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Wednesday February 15, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Dale Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kenyon. Michaelson Funeral Home of Kenyon is handling arrangements.
