Obituary

Isabella Bell Hope Kohl, 102, of Rochester, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at Cottagewood Assisted Living in Rochester. Isabella was born January 30, 1912 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of James and Isabella (Hope) Thomson. At the age of 13 she and her parents moved from St. Paul to Seattle. Isabella attended the University of Washington earning a Bachelors Degree in 1934 with an additional degree in 1935. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and was honored when she was a member for 70 years. Upon graduating she returned to Minnesota and was an advertising manager for Oreck's in Duluth for 4 1/2 years. She was united in marriage to Charles Kohl on September 30, 1939 in Duluth. The couple moved to Owatonna in 1941. Isabella was a homemaker for many years. During that time she was very active at the Associated Church where she was a member for over 70 years. In her younger years she helped in many areas of the church and belonged to two circles. She enjoyed needlepoint and she made many pieces over the years. She also loved to knit. Her artistic abilities reflected in her lovely home. She also belonged to the Cosmopolitan Literary Club for over 30 years and a member of the Owatonna Arts Center. In 1948 she was hired by Federated Insurance to work as a commercial artist and help with their art work. She worked for Federated for 15 years. She retired from Federated, but Isabella enjoyed every minute while working there and missed being a part of Federated. The couple also owned the Dairy Treat in downtown Owatonna for many years and also owned and operated Furnace Vac. She and her husband spent part of the winter in Arizona for many years. Charles died in 1999 after almost 60 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Hope (and William Bill) Meschke of Rochester; son, Robert (and Connie) Kohl of Muskegon, MI; two granddaughters; a great granddaughter and also two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Kohl; her parents; three sisters, one brother, and two nieces. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at The Associated Church with The Reverend Jim Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Associated Church, Owatonna Arts Center, or donor's choice. Visitation: 09/08/2014 13:00 09/08/2014 15:00 Service: 09/09/2014 13:00
