Jack L. Nornes, 87, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Owatonna Care Center. Jack Leland Nornes was born June 18, 1923 in Crookston, Minnesota the son of Carl and Grace (Sanderson) Nornes. After finishing high school in 1942, he served in the United States Navy during WWII in North Africa, and was discharged in 1946. Jack played saxophone and clarinet in Navy bands while stationed overseas. After his marriage to Evelyn Bjerk in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1952, Jack took Evelyn on tour with dance bands in the Midwest and the South. Their daughter, Cynthia, was born in 1953 and their son, Timothy, in 1955. The family settled in Baytown, TX from 1954-1960 and then returned to Minnesota. Jack became a route salesman for Elde's Auto Parts where he worked for 25 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Eagles, the Sons of Norway and a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion where he performed volunteer work after his retirement. Jack enjoyed the numerous friends he made on his sales routes and continued to play in bands for many years. He also loved hunting, and for many years took a hunting trip with close friends. He considered his family to be his favorite people. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Nornes of Bemidji; his son, Timothy (and Colleen Kingrey) Nornes of Apple Valley; and his grandson, Daniel Zerott of Minneapolis. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his parents, his brothers, Charles and Harry and his sisters, Margaret Dahl and Sylvia Gullickson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Dean Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Scandia Cemetery in Beltrami.
