James “Jim” Edward Fischer ,84, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida died on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Powers Ridge Senior Living in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
He was born on November 5, 1941, in Faribault, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Mabel (Friesen) Fischer. He grew up in Kenyon and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1959. Jim then attended college at Minnesota State Mankato and graduated with a degree in social work and business. James was united in marriage to Monica Lee Fischer on February 23, 1979, in Hopkins and they were blessed with four daughters, Julie, Jeanne, Jo, and Nicole. Jim was the CEO of the Sheriffs Youth Programs of Minnesota for 32 years then became the Director for Habitat for Humanity for Lake and Sumter Counties in Florida for 12 years.
Jim loved to travel and especially loved to go deer hunting in Colorado. He was also a member of the National Association of Homes and Services for Children, Minnesota Child Care Association.
He is survived by his wife Monica Lee (Storrs) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; daughters, Julie Fischer, Jeanne Fischer (David Hofland) of Minneapolis, Jo (Marvin) Schmitt of Shakopee, Nicole (Todd) Miller of Blaine; 5 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; brother, Richard (Anita) Fischer of Austin; sister, Janice Fischer (Mike Enter) of Yuma, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mabel Fischer.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 2PM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kenyon. There will be a visitation from 1PM until the start of mass. Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Rural Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity in Leesburg, Florida, or a charity of your choice.
