James Lloyd Wincell, 79, of Owatonna, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.

He was born October 29, 1945, in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Lloyd and Berthina (Ransom) Wincell. Jim grew up in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart Susan Ruzek on April 3, 1965. The couple was able to spend 59 and a half years together and were blessed with two children. Jim worked various jobs before starting JW Decorating, and then worked for Cybex being #5 on the list of hires. He retired from working in 2006, after 25 years, where Jim and Sue were able to spend summers at Lake Emily Resort in Emily, Minnesota.

Jim loved his pair of 1970 Chevelle cars. They would go to numerous car shows a year to show off their classics and to spend time with friends. Jim also was a drummer for the local band The Esquires performing in various venues in the area. Many would see Jim managing summer softball teams, going fishing throughout the state, spending time with friends, and cheering on any Minnesota sports teams. If you knew Jim you know that he enjoyed inviting people over to sit on the front porch, have a cold beverage in hand, and telling stories, even if the truth is bent a little bit.

He is survived by his wife Sue Wincell of Owatonna; daughter, Teresa Beese of Owatonna, and her children Jake, Zach, and Josh (and Danae) Beese; son, Bill (and Gina) Wincell, and their son Dalten Wincell; three great-grandchildren; sister, Pam (and Dennis) Ihrke of Owatonna and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Berthina Wincell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Owatonna Knights of Columbus 820 South Elm Street, Owatonna, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 2:30PM-6PM. All that attend are encouraged to wear their favorite Minnesota sports team apparel.
