Janet Marlene Neumann, 87, of Owatonna, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Whispering Oak Place in Ellendale.

She was born September 30, 1938, in New Richland, the daughter of Loring and Marian (Mortensen) Larson. Janet attended country school and was a graduate of Ellendale High School. Following school, she worked for Jostens in Owatonna.

Janet was united in marriage to Virgil D. Neumann on October 31, 1969. Following their marriage, Janet and Virgil farmed near Manchester. They moved to Albert Lea in 1976 where she was employed as a bookkeeper at Streater’s and Eastside Truckstop. They moved back to the Owatonna area in the early 1990’s and she worked for Federated before retiring.

Janet was an active member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Ellendale, where she was the church treasurer and custodian for many years. Her pastimes included crocheting, sewing, cooking & baking, making lefse, visiting with friends, watching tv & sports, and later in life she enjoyed coloring with pencils in coloring books. Janet especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and being an active part of their lives.

Janet is survived by her son, Loring (Molly) Neumann of Owatonna; grandchildren, Tanner Neumann of rural Owatonna, Payton Neumann (special friend, Ali Roushar) of Owatonna, and MaKenna Neumann of Mankato; sister-in-law, Audrey Larson of Ellendale; also many nieces and nephews, including the families of Sheila (Mike) Treece, Sonja (Luke) Thurnau, and Nathan Larson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil in 2016 and a brother, Eugene Larson.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in rural Ellendale. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Pontoppidan Lutheran Church.
