Janice Eleanor Patterson, 82, formerly Owatonna, passed away peacefully Friday, September 13, 2019 at White Pine Advanced Assisted Living in Blaine. She was born January 9, 1937 near Almelund the daughter of Charlie and Edna (Anderson) Thorsell. Janice attended school in North Branch graduating in 1955. She worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis for 7 years. On June 14, 1958 Janice married Graydon Patterson. The couple lived in Minneapolis until 1962 when they moved the Cottage Grove to start a family. In 1974 she and Graydon moved to Owatonna where Janice was a stay at home mom until 1976 when Graydon was found to have cardiomyopathy which was followed by a stroke. She cared for him until his death in 1980. She then went to work at the Owatonna Nursing Home and later at Cedarview Care Center for 15 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of Senior Place, Owatonna Solo Parents and the VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and served as an Election Judge for many years. Janice enjoyed visiting family and friends, playing cards and going on trips. She is survived by her children, Gregory (and Martha) Patterson of Silverdale, WA, Laurie (and Eric) Stromberg of White Bear Township, Mike (and Bobbi) Patterson of Owatonna, Renee (and John) Tobias of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Nate Patterson, Mary Patterson, Larissa (and Ryan) Olson, Anna Tobias, Michael Tobias; great grandchild, Jasper Olson; sister, Bonnie Hagen of Beresford,, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Graydon; sisters, Lois Hareid, Donna Johnson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota or to the donor's choice.
