Obituary

J.D. Bringgold, 86, of Owatonna, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Jacob D. J.D. was born February 5, 1928 in Dodge Center, Minnesota the son of Robert and Margaret (Patterson) Bringgold. He was one of eleven children and they were raised on a farm in West Concord. The family later moved to Owatonna. J.D. graduated from Owatonna High School in 1946. He entered into the United States Navy on July 11, 1946. He served as a Seabee in Okinawa and Guam until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1948. He returned to Owatonna and attended Mankato Teachers College. He married Joan Frettem on June 23, 1956 in Faribault, Minnesota. J.D. worked as the Gas Foreman for the Owatonna Public Utilities for 35 years until his retirement in 1983. J.D. enjoyed the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, playing softball, and golf. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and watching professional sports. J.D. and Joan spent many summers at their cabin on Lake Mille Lacs. They also wintered in Texas for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW, Legion and Elks. He is survived by his wife Joan Bringgold of Owatonna; daughter, Jody (and Chris) Wilker of White Bear Lake; son, Bob (and Ann) Bringgold of Coon Rapids; five grandchildren, Patrick (and Alli) Wilker of Hugo, Sarah (and Jason) Mcgwier of Austin, TX, Jake (and Allyson) Wilker of Irving, TX, Mylissa Bringgold of Ramsey, and Mike Bringgold of Coon Rapids; two sisters, Virginia Cheshire of Douglasville, GA and Sue (and Tom) O'Brien of Lakeville; special nephew, John (and Marti) Loquai; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Bringgold, and seven sisters, Ruth Slezak, Mildred Long, Dorothy Loquai, Margaret Sanford, Alice Brick, Marie Sette, and Arlene Brick. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at The Associated Church on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at The Associated Church with The Reverend Jim Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or donor's choice.
