Jean Duffy Dougherty, 81, of Owatonna, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Traditions of Owatonna. Jean was born February 9, 1930 in Dorchester, Iowa the daughter of Francis and Marie (Blake-Schulte) Duffy. There she was raised and attended school graduating from Dorchester High School. She was united in marriage to Bernie Dougherty on September 4, 1948 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in Dorchester. They made their home in Dubuque. Following Bernie''s military service, they couple lived in several locations. In 1963, they moved to Luverne where she was employed in retail at Luverne Style Shop and later Schutz''s Hardware. In 1998 the couple moved to Owatonna. Bernie died in January 2002. Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, golfing and socializing. Jean was very artistic and creative. She liked to paint and had a flare for decorating. She was very supportive of her children, all with six unique personalities. Early on she''d enjoy watching them participate in sporting and other activities, but was so nervous she had to videotape the games. Jean especially enjoyed listening to Bernie sing along with the rest of the musical Doughertys. As a grandmother, she was a positive support. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Jean lived well, laughed often, and loved much. She is survived by her children, Dan Dougherty of Superior, WI; Kim (and Larry) Larson of Owatonna; Shawn (and Tammie) Dougherty of Red Wing; Shelly (and Scott) Golberg of Owatonna; Kelly (and Lisa) Dougherty of Sachse, TX; Amy (and Jim) Baldus of Mound; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Skillion of Redding, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie, her parents, Marie and Francis Duffy, two sisters, Agnes 'Jeri' White, Mary Kneeskern and a brother, Jack Duffy. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
