Jean Geneva Hillestad, 90, of Cypress, TX, formerly of Claremont and Owatonna, MN, passed away on July 14, 2015 at the Parsons House of Cypress Assisted Living. Jean was born on November 28, 1924 to Enhardt and Florence (Mann) Duden in Red Wing. She was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from South High. She was united in marriage to Harold Clifton Hillestad on May 6, 1955 in Northwood, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1975. Following graduation, she lived in Minneapolis and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank. Jean also worked as a Data Entry Supervisor for the Owatonna Tool Company while raising her son, Larry. Jean and Harold moved to Minneapolis in 1972 and there she worked for the Mail House until retiring to Claremont in 1989. Jean moved to Cypress to be closer to her family. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Claremont and also Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Owatonna. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and is known for the many beautiful afghans she made for family and friends. She was also an avid volunteer at a nursing home in Owatonna for almost 25 years. Jean is survived by her son, Larry (and Janice) Vines of Cypress, TX; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Vines of Spring, TX, Jessica (and Nick) Earl of Austin, TX and Geoffrey (and Amanda) Vines of San Antonio, TX; 10 great grandchildren Owen, Camille, Katharine and Elizabeth Earl and Benjamin, Emily, Joseph, Thomas, William and James Vines; brother-in-law Lester Thomas and special friends for over fourty years, Mick and Mona McMartin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Eunice (Duden) Hintz and brother-in-law Bernie Hintz, sister-law Ruth Thomas and brother-in-law Orlean Hillestad and sister-in-law Betty Hillestad and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015, 2:00 pm-5:00 pm at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015, 10:30 am at the Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna. Burial will take place in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Claremont.
